Not “Unsigned” anymore. It’s “Self Signed.”
The music industry as we know it is in transition.
The majority of music now being created, distributed, shared, and bought is happening outside the traditional music industry.
Unsigned artists like Kelly, Never Shout Never, and Boyce Avenue each sold over 1 million songs through self distribution.
In 2009 alone, self-distributing CD Baby and TuneCore bands earned over $79million from online stores and music stream services.
So tune out the doom and gloom about declining music sales. Get your share of the action. CD Baby, Tune Core are brilliant independent retailers of music, If people want it they’ll buy it. Its up-to you to push and push that sound. After all you’re competing with Radio Stations and Record Companies..well not necessarily competing, But its a dog eat dog world out there. If you want your sound heard dont wait around , promote yourself in more than one venue, Make your music easy to get hold of. Distribution is key.

Now people, They’re there, But make sure you read the small print. They’re companies with a great idea. But make sure if they ask you for a license to sell your music you have one. We know people who have had both good experiences and bad experiences. Research opinions online. But overall the idea is simple. Dont wait for Sony to knock on your door. Go the long haul.
